rack: risk-aware consensual kink
RACK is a philosophy that says, that in BDSM we must keep in mind the risks and be aware of it. What type of risk is it? To be precise, risk should be understood as the risk of breaking the prisoner.Explaining the individual parts of this name:
- Risk-aware - participants of session have to realize, that there are risks connected with the implementation of planned activities.
- Consensual - aware of the threat, the participants agree knowingly and consent to implementation the planned activities.
- Kink - another form of sexual activity.
Some people think that it is the opposite principle of the SSC (Safe, Sane and Consensual), but in my opinion RACK only emphasizes that you should be aware that BDSM as a "contact sport", which affects the body, but also on the psyche, and can lead to some unexpected effects, such as crying, unwillingness to continue the play, or loss of interest in BDSM on, usually short, period of time.
The main difference between SSC and RACK philosophy is that SSC is trying to describe the principles of BDSM play in such a way, that they are understandable also for people who are not interested in BDSM. Hence the introduction of clear rules from the start-one system: safety, common-sense, consent. RACK emphasise, that nothing is in 100% safe. What for one person will be completely non-invasive, for the second it might be that it is far beyond they tolerance. RACK, in contrast to the SSC, says that it is not possible to determine with absolute certainty, that something is safe or unsafe. We can only say that something is more or less safe.
